The Last Resort Inn dates back to 1883 when it was originally built by Civil War Captain Barney Dyckman. Originally known as Park Grove Place, the inn is believed to be the first resort built in South Haven, Michigan. Over the years, the inn has had many updates such as a 75-foot wing added in 1900 and the name changed to St. Cloud Resort. It was renamed again to The Plaza in 1923, and during this iteration, the inn offered delicious dinners on the weekends followed by rounds of poker. It was also discovered that the inn was a local supplier of liquor during the prohibition; during a renovation, a wall in the kitchen was found to have names written with the word "pints" beside them, suggesting a hidden list of liquor orders! Eventually the inn was renamed the Last Resort Inn on the building's 100th birthday in 1983 after an extensive three-year renovation under new ownership. Today the inn continues to welcome all kinds of travelers looking to enjoy a relaxing and memorable vacation with a touch of historic charm!
